A Local Outdoor Store for the Middle TN Area and More

While the Middle TN area is a very nice place to live, there are not a lot of outdoor gear shops. The few that are around also don't really cater to the whitewater community. Chances are that you have had to order tons of stuff online without seeing it in person, you get very few chances to demo different boats, etc. Well, Outdoor Experience (OE) in Cookeville is your savior.  

Located at 124 East Broad Street, Cookeville, TN 38501, Outdoor Experience is by far the closest outdoor store to the Nashville area, which actually carries whitewater gear and boats. We are talking a full line of Jackson Kayaks for demo and for sale! Bear in mind that Jackson Kayaks are the only ones they carry so if you are looking for a Dagger, Wave Sport, etc you are out of luck. Good thing Jackson makes some amazing boats! 

If you are heading to Rock Island, the Obed River area (Clear Creek, Daddy's Creek), Spring Creek, the Pigeon, etc, the Outdoor Experience is very conveniently located just off Interstate 40. You can stop in, grab some hiking, camping or boating gear, rent a boat to demo or whatever else. The demo boats are $50 for a day (thats a full 24hrs, not half a day or less like a lot of places), $75 for the weekend. If you decide to buy the boat you demoed, you get the rental price off the full price. Pretty sweet.

Outdoor Experience moved from the tiny space they previously operated out of to an impressive 5,000 sqft building this year. They have put a lot of work into the space and it really shows. The downstairs section has tons of hiking gear, ENO hammocks and accessories, outer layers, a large footwear section and much more. Upstairs is a super cool area made out to be a camping scene with several different tents, chairs, couches, hammock, lots of kayaks, a mock campsite, etc. Really awesome chill area where they hold some events as well. Speaking of events, OE does tons of those too. They are very active in the community and spreading the outdoor love. They hold lots of rock climbing classes, trail hiking, backpacking, kayak rolling clinics, etc. Most of these start in the Spring time and we will post about those events when they come around.
